Located adjacent to the Cheam train station, this super lightweight commercial extension 
provides two additional storeys to an existing steel and precast concrete frame structure. 
The  existing  steel  and  precast  concrete  frame structure  provided  a  suitable  structural

base  for  a super lightweight extension. 

 

The  existing  columns  were  extended  through  the roof to provide a steel stub column onto

which the hold  rolled  steel  grillage  could  be  fixed.  See  the image  above.  Steelwork  

providing  support  for  the SFS  columns  and  walls  and  transferring  loads back to the

original columns and foundations. 

 

The  cold  rolled  SFS  frame  can  then  be  seen extended on the adjacent image up to the

new roof level. Additional   project   challenges   came   from   the proximity   to   the

National   Rail lines at Cheam Station.
