Who I am and what makes me tick…

What prompted you to start a career in Structural Engineering

From the age of 13, I travelled extensively around the UK for rowing competitions, which sparked my early fascination with the built environment. One of my first coaches, who began his career as a draughtsman and is now a technology manager at BDP, played a key role in this inspiration. As we visited National Trust sites and other architectural landmarks between events, he would talk me through the structural elements and design features of these buildings.

Coupled with my passion for maths and physics, these experiences gave me a tangible connection to how engineering shapes the real world. I was drawn to the idea of working as part of a team to create structures that are not only technically sound but also long-lasting and impactful. That combination of intellectual challenge and practical, meaningful outcomes is what truly motivated me to pursue a career in structural engineering.

How has your previous experience helped you at Centrespace Design?

My experience as a professional athlete taught me the value of working in a high-performing team, where each person’s strengths contribute to a shared goal. I’ve brought that same collaborative mindset to Centrespace Design, quickly adapting to the team and supporting projects with focus, resilience, and a strong sense of teamwork. It’s been rewarding to contribute to a group that values both technical quality and collective success.

Which part of your work gives you the greatest sense of achievement?

I find the greatest sense of achievement in working on unusual or complex buildings where I can develop satisfying structural solutions that are seamlessly integrated and preferably hidden behind beautiful architectural design.

How would people describe you?

People would describe me as energetic and always on the move, someone who loves to chat, connect with others, and is always up for an adventure or trying something new.

What motivates you to do what you do?

I’m motivated by the drive to push myself beyond what I thought I could achieve and to keep learning and growing, both personally and professionally. That constant development allows me to do work I’m proud of while also providing a way of life where I can follow my passions and spend meaningful time with friends and family outside of work.

What can you be found doing when you’re not at work?

When I’m not at work, you’ll often find me coaching at Henley Rowing Club, walking my dog through the amazing countryside where I live, catching up with friends and family, out on my motorbike, or getting stuck into a variety of other sports — I like to keep life active and full of variety
