Working with architect – Napier Clarke, Brendon Lodge was a 1980’s property which was in need of modernisation.
A sustainable and contemporary update was delivered, alongside a rear extension, and the form of the roof was influenced by the need to create taller ceilings.
The challenge was to find a way to support the roofline, which was set at two different pitches without any intermediate posts.
The solution was to sandwich a steel plate between two slimmer Douglas fir beams, fulfilling the required load-bearing capacity without creating a bulky aesthetic.
The result is a simple but elegant exposed structure!
